What is an apprenticeship?

Apprenticeships are practical, hands on training programmes where you are paid while you learn. Apprentices start at Level 2 unless they have suitable knowledge and vocational experience in their chosen field.

How do I find an employer?

There are lots of switched on employers looking for switched on apprentices. A bit of planning and investigation will give you the edge. You can start the ball rolling by applying to companies whilst still at school with a view to being taken on as an apprentice once you leave. They may also want you to do some work experience before leaving school. The College can assist you to find a job, but it makes sense to start applying soon.

It looks easy – and it can be if you put in the preparation. If you haven’t had much experience at job hunting, don’t worry the College can help with CV preparation and interview techniques.

What happens next?

If you secure a job, the College will work with you and your employer to begin your apprenticeship as soon as possible. If you do not have a job, you should still apply for an apprenticeship and we will invite you to attend an interview. It is a good idea to visit the College and our Skills & Employment Centre at one of our Open Evenings/Apprenticeship Recruitment Events.
